Herbs can be used not only as physical medicines, but ritual medicines as well. We will explore the ceremonial use of herbs in Native American and other traditional cultures, how they are used as incense, baths, amulets, teas and paints to grow our spirits, heal our souls, and protect us from malign influences.
This class will be a presentation from over 25 years of experience of running a successful herb school and clinic offering clinical training, as well as classes to the community on many levels?from the beginner to alumni looking for deeper training. We will cover intention setting, mission/vision statements as well as legal and financial considerations. Hoping for a lively discussion as well on how to carry the traditions of our craft forward with integrity, elegance and joy.

The sacred temazkal is one of many ancient ceremonies in the Mexica tradition. What is a temazkal? It is an ancient form of multilevel cleansing of body, mind and spirit. In an effort to educate and provide a respectful cultural exchange this presentation will attempt to discuss the history of the temazkal, its healing properties and the protocols used today to maintain the teachings the way the ancient people requested. We will talk about the different herbs used in temazkales for different purposes and share the concept of the four elements, four directions, four colors, the duality principle and the "limpias".
Join Rosemary for a glorious visual feast as we journey across the meadows, woodlands and backyards of America via a slide presentation identifying some of our most potent common medicinal plants as well as favorite medicinals that are At Risk. Conservation and Propagation of our at-risk species will be discussed.
We shall explore the difference between shallow and deep ecology, both biologically and philosophically and relate this to what can be described as shallow herbalism and deep herbalism, i.e., simply using herbs as utilitarian medicine or relating to herbs as a doorway towards a deeper relationship with Gaia.
